Thirty-Five Oregon Schools and Emergency Services Buildings will Undergo Seismic Retrofits and Improvements through State Grant Program

Salem, OR — The buildings Oregon communities will depend on in the face of a seismic disaster will be stronger and improved with a new round of seismic rehabilitation grants from Business Oregon. The state agency announced 35 grants totaling $74,478,834 this week in the sixth round of funding from the program.

The Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program is a state of Oregon competitive grant program that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, particularly public schools and emergency services facilities. It is one of the infrastructure programs Business Oregon administers to help develop livable and prosperous communities, in addition to the agency’s business development work.

With this round, now 252 schools and 108 emergency services buildings have been awarded $456,732,427 in funding for improvements since the program’s first awards in 2009. The program was created by the Oregon Legislature in 2005, and transferred to Business Oregon in 2014.

Public K-12 school districts, community colleges, and education service districts are eligible for the grant program. For emergency services facilities, the emphasis is on first-responder buildings. This includes: hospital buildings with acute inpatient care facilities, fire stations, police stations, sheriff's offices, 911 centers, and Emergency Operations Centers.
